Cambridge native Riley Silva will get his first season at the University of Nebraska underway on Friday.

With the start of the NCAA Division I season just days away, expectations are high for Cambridge's Riley Silva.

The University of Nebraska outfielder was recently ranked the No. 37 draft prospect in the Big Ten Conference by the media outlet D1Baseball.

Silva is entering his first season in Lincoln after transferring from Barton Community College in Kansas. During his time with the Cougars, he played in 66 games and hit .361 with 11 doubles, seven triples, 41 RBI, 75 runs and 45 stolen bases.

He garnered Second-Team All-Region VI and First-Team All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference recognition as a sophomore in 2023.

A graduate of St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School, Silva joins a Huskers program that's produced over 35 Major League Baseball players, including fellow Canadian and Silva's high school coach Adam Stern, Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers and former stars Alex Gordon and Darren Erstad.

Silva and the Huskers will be thrust into the spotlight to open the season this weekend as they head to Texas for the Shriners Children's College Showdown at Globe Life Field, home of the 2023 World Series champion Texas Rangers.

They'll take on Baylor University on Friday, Texas Tech University of Saturday and round out the trip on Sunday with a game against the University of Oklahoma.
