Daniel Fitzgerald will be an assistant coach for the Guelph Storm this season.

The Guelph Storm has rounded out its coaching staff with a familiar face to hockey fans in Cambridge.

Daniel Fitzgerald was named an assistant coach by general manager George Burnett on Wednesday afternoon.

”I’m honoured to join the Guelph Storm and can’t wait to get to work,” Fitzgerald said in a release on the Storm’s website

“I want to thank ownership, George and Chad (Wiseman) for the opportunity.”

Fitzgerald led the 2016-2017 Cambridge Winter Hawks to a 29-19-2 record, good for fifth place in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Midwestern Conference.

After leaving the Winter Hawks, the Ancaster native spent time as the head coach for the GOJHL’s St. Catharines Falcons, Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Brantford 99er’s and the Ontario Hockey League’s Niagara Ice Dogs.

Prior to coaching, Fitzgerald played four seasons of junior hockey and suited up for the Niagara University Purple Eagles.
