The Cambridge RedHawks officially have new owners.

After rumours swirled and sources told CambridgeToday earlier this month that the team was under new leadership, the news became official on Thursday.

In a series of moves, the ownership of the Brantford Bandits, led Rob McIntosh and Eric Boissonneault, acquired the RedHawks, according to a release on the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League website.

The other five owners are JP Boileau, Jason Stangl, Troy Futher, Blake Secard and Greg Shoniker.

The Bandits, meanwhile, have been acquired by Jon Clark and Mike Christian, current owners of the Paris Titans of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

"The previous owners, Scott and Kelly Hunter, were integral in the development and growth of the Redhawks during their time in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL)," the release reads.

"Starting with the franchise in Guelph and later relocating to Cambridge, the Hunters played a significant role in shaping the team’s identity as the Redhawks. The GOJHL extends our heartfelt gratitude to Scott and Kelly Hunter for their contributions to the Redhawks and wishes them all the best in their future endeavours."

The seven new owners, who have connections to Waterloo region, banded together to buy the Bandits in 2023.

Less than two months after buying the team, the group attempted to move the franchise to Kitchener but the idea was voted down by the other Midwestern Conference teams.

A release on the RedHawks website also thanks the Hunter's for their service and looked forward to a new era for the franchise.

"The new ownership group also known as the 'beer league guys' had a great season in Brantford as they rejuvenated that franchise and achieved more success on the ice then the team has seen in a long time," the release said.

"The group also spent many hours in the community of Brantford doing charitable events and encouraging their players to have community involvement. We can’t wait to see what they will do within the City of Cambridge!"

Boissonneault is listed as the team's director of hockey operations and former Bandits general manager Todd Hoffman has assumed the same responsibility in Cambridge.

Sources have told CambridgeToday that all other hockey operations staff have been relieved of their duties.
