Redhawks hometown forward Fries a Midwestern Conference All-Star

Fries put up a career high in points during the 2023-24 regular season

Matt Fries has been named to the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League Midwestern Conference All-Star Team.

It's been a memorable season for forward Matt Fries.

It started with being named captain of his hometown Cambridge RedHawks and was followed by a career high 54-point regular season.

And now he can add being named a Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League Midwestern Conference All-Star to his list of accomplishments.

The league announced the team on Wednesday. 

Fries scored 25 goals and assisted on 29 others in 42 games to finish 15th overall in the GOJHL in scoring.

In three seasons in Cambridge, he played in 131 regular season games, collecting 55 goals and 81 assists for 136 points.

The RedHawks opened the playoffs on Wednesday night and Fries was right in the middle of the action, scoring a goal and recording an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss.

He'll look to help his team even the series in Game 2 on Saturday night.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Galt Arena Gardens.
