Scott Walker named assistant coach of Canada's world junior team

Scott Walker will be an assistant coach on Canada's World Junior team this Christmas.

Scott Walker is stepping back behind a bench this winter.

The Cambridge native has been named an assistant coach for Canada's world junior team for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship. The announcement was made Friday afternoon by Hockey Canada.

Walker has a ton of experience at the international level.

He was an assistant coach for Canada's world junior team in both 2012 and 2015, he also served as an assistant for the Canadian Olympic team in 2018.

Right now, Walker is a partner and president of hockey operations with the Guelph Storm. He also served as head coach of the Storm for six seasons, winning an OHL championship in 2014.

He began last season as Storm head coach, but stepped away for medical reasons.

Al Letang, the current bench boss in Sarnia, will be the head coach of the team.

Other assistants include Gilles Bouchard (Sherbrooke, QMJHL) and Shaun Clouston (Kamloops, WHL).

The Canadian world junior team will look to defend its gold medal win in Sweden Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, 2024.
