It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce that this most beautiful soul, Maria Isabel Canto has been called home to be with her Lord and Saviour, January 28, 2022. Isabel passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the age of 85.

Isabel was born on Dec 22,1936 in Livramento, Sao Miguel, Acores. She immigrated to Canada with her husband Manuel and two young children in 1964 to start a better life in Cambridge, Ontario. She was a devoted, loving, gentle, and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend.

Predeceased by her much loved husband Manuel (1990), infant sons Joao Manuel (1958), Joao Manuel (1960), parents Manuel and Estrela Carriero, in-laws Joao and Amelia Canto, as well as many cherished deceased family members. Loving mother to Joe Canto (Bernice), and Lucy Watola (Ray). Will be greatly missed by grandchildren Troy (Candace), Kyle, Samantha (Kraig), Justine (Scott), and Bronson (Stefanie). She is survived by her most treasured best friend Ilda (Marcelino), by her beloved sisters Virginia (USA), Alda (Sao Miguel), and brother David (Evelina)(Cambridge), by her special niece Alda (Sao Miguel), sister in-laws Belmira (Sao Miguel), Irondina (Nova Scotia) and Fernanda (Guelph) as well as many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Isabel’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the W.W.L.H.I.N and all of the palliative care team, especially Dr Tamara Holling, NP Donna Gill, nurses Rodin and Benadetta also to Grand Pharmacy’s exceptional pharmacist Rowanda. Their extraordinary care, compassion, and support kept her at home.

At Maria Isabel’s request a private funeral will take place. No flowers please. Donations can be made in her memory to Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
