JULY 7, 1920 – AUGUST 4, 2023

Passed away peacefully on August 4 at her home in Cambridge, Ontario in her 104th year.

Born in Vanessa, Ontario on July 7, 1920, Iris grew up on a farm with her brother and six sisters and relished the simplicity of the time. She loved talking about her childhood and young adulthood and how she had the fortune to watch the world and technology develop over 10 decades of living.

Iris is predeceased by her husband Charles Hunter and her three children Kathy, David, and Christopher, who with now she had been reunited. Iris is survived by her sister Laurel, her grandsons Robert Howden and his partner Alycia Hodapp, and Richard Howden and his wife Andréa Howden and their sons, Iris’ great grandsons William and Benjamin Howden.

Iris was a fiercely independent woman who lived alone and reveled in the freedom of driving her car until the arrival of COVID and she proudly maintained a valid driver’s license until the time of her passing.

Having moved from Milton to Cambridge after the death of her husband in 1995, Iris referred to the family’s cottage as ‘home’ and spent much of her summers there, including two special weeks this past July to celebrate her 103rd birthday.

She loved her family dearly and enjoyed consistently busy days of entertaining guests and neighbours in her home.

Iris’ spirit was infectious and she had a wonderful ability to engage with everyone she met, always making them feel special.

The family wishes to thank the many people who looked out for Iris and cared for her during her final days. A special team came together to care and support this incredibly special woman.

A Celebration of Life will be part of her interment at the Vanessa Cemetery on Saturday, August 19 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.
