It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Iris Irene (Wills) Lovegrove in her 103rd year. She is survived by her sons Tim (Colleen) and Alan (Sheri deceased) and grandchildren Matthew (Laura), Brandon (Sarah), Cassandra (Corey), Vanessa (Darren) Scopazzi, Julian, (Meaghan deceased). Great grandchildren Olivia, Alexis, Giancarlo, Dakota and Avah. Predeceased by her mother Doris, father Foster and brother Ronald.
Iris was born in Redruth, Cornwall, England on June 26th, 1921. She immigrated to Canada with her mother and brother, arriving in Montreal the day of the stock market crash, October 29th, 1929. Intending on joining Father Foster in Windsor, his job was lost and the family stopped in Galt to stay with friends, where they then settled into their new life in Canada.
Pre-deceased by her husband Bill in 1975, Iris was proudly independent, working to support herself and travelling the world, alone or with friends. She loved telling stories about growing up in small town Galt. Attending St. Andrews Public School, skating on the Grand River on cold winter days, celebrating in the streets on VE Day or listening to the bands on summer nights at the Victoria Park band shell.
The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses, psw's, volunteers and physicians at Cambridge and Freeport Hospitals (with special thanks to Dr. Emma Scotchmer). Additional thanks to those at Hilltop Manor for their kindness during her short stay there.
Cremation has taken place. A private family remembrance will take place at a later date.
