With great sadness and gratitude for life shared with a wonderful man, Donald's family announces his peaceful passing, surrounded by the love of his family, on January 17, 2023 at the age of 88.
Best friend and husband of nearly 60 years to Stephanie Niechcial (nee Holland). Loving father of Rosemary Niechcial and Ingrid Niechcial (Sandy). Proud Dziadzia of Alexandra, Skye and Heidi. Donald is survived by his sister, Louise LeBlanc. He will be missed and fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Antoni and Karolina Niechcial, and his sister, Violet Schaffer.
Donald was a teacher at Vincent Massey Secondary School in Windsor until his retirement, and a favorite among the students. He was an outdoorsman - he loved sailing, especially the Wednesday night racing club at the Southport Sailing Club, seasons spent camping at Laurel Creek Conservation Area in Waterloo, and winters in the south of France and Portugal. Donald was a man of many interests, and was very skilled. He could be found playing piano or accordian, growing his own food, sewing, woodworking, or building and engineering. He made friends everywhere with his friendly way, and quite simply, everyone liked him. He was deeply loved, and he will be greatly missed.
Private services have taken place. For those who wish, memorial donations in Donald's memory may be made to Covenant House.
