DECEMBER 20, 1959 – MAY 6, 2024

With heavy hearts we announce that Garry Penney, aged 64, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, after bravely facing a period of illness. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Garry was a devoted father to Samuel, a beloved son to Catherine Penney, a dear brother to Judy McGregor, Denise Kent (Tony Kretzky), and Michelle (Ian "I.J.") James, a proud uncle to Jennifer (Brock), Michael (Kay), Cameron (Steph), Kayla, Neil (Rachel), and a great uncle to Julianna, Everleigh, Wesley, Landon, Scarlett, Isla, and Abby. He will be fondly remembered by his extended family and many friends, including his closest companions Bruce and Sally Leckie, Linda Brohman, Allan Kapitany, Jocelyn Sinclair (Mark), Myriam Mullin, and Darren VanBuuren (Sue). Garry is predeceased by his father Michael (1982) and his brothers-in-law Garry McGregor (2004) and Frank DiBattista (2017).

For the past 13 years, he dedicated himself to Agri-Plastics out of Stoney Creek and Nebraska where he served as a respected manager. His colleagues and management team will deeply miss his presence and leadership. In his leisure time, Garry was a passionate hockey enthusiast and a proud supporter of the Boston Bruins. Although an injury halted his own playing days, his love for the sport never waned. Garry found solace in singing and playing the guitar, particularly enjoying sessions with his friend Bruce. He had a soft spot for classic cars, with the ‘69 Camaro holding a special place in his heart. Yet, above all, Garry cherished moments spent with his family; watching sports with his son, having dinner each week with his Mom and delighting in playful banter and pranks with his nieces and nephews.

Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during visitation at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrew Street, Cambridge, on Friday, May 10, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held the following day, Saturday, May 11, at 1 p.m. in the Coutts Funeral Home Chapel, with one hour of visitation prior. Everyone is encouraged to wear your favourite hockey jersey as Garry would have wanted. A luncheon will take place afterwards at Coutts Funeral Home with sandwiches, snacks and some of Garry's favourite foods for those that are able to attend. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow and Garry will later be laid to rest alongside his father, Michael, at Mount View Cemetery, Cambridge.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in Garry’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Our heartfelt thanks to all of the medical professionals who cared for Garry over these last few years. Your care and compassion has meant so much.

Rest in peace, until we meet again baby boy – Love, Mom
