Elizabeth (Betty) Evans Szabatin, nee Anderson

Born in Galston, Scotland to James and Agnes Anderson, Betty was always active and in search of adventure. She was a terrific netball player and a nationally ranked junior high jumper. This was just the start of a lifetime involvement in sports both as a participant as well as a fan and supporter.

After graduating from training as a nurse and mid-wife in Scotland and England, she left for Canada to begin her nursing career. It was in Port Arthur where she met, nursed and fell for the love of her life. Married in 1963 to Frank Sr., they soon left for Toronto to begin their family. Three sons later, they were in search of a more family oriented community and decided Preston was the place to be.

Betty was a proud founding member of the Preston Hockey Mothers Association as well as a proud mother attending as many of her sons’ hockey/baseball/softball/football/basketball games as humanly possible. She loved having neighbourhood kids over for a swim and listening to the trials and tribulations of their young lives, and then giving them the council that she found appropriate. She always had an opinion, and if you disagreed, you would soon learn about it.

Later in life she was instrumental in growing the game of pickle ball in Cambridge and was proud and grateful for the involvement of her friends.

She loved and was loved.

Above all else, she was our Mom and Nana, she will be missed by her sons, Frank, Paul and James, daughter-in-law Linda, grandchildren; Danica-Lee, Josiah and great grand children; Emily and Elizabeth, and Derrick.
