Arie passed away suddenly on Monday August 7 at the age of 71.
Arie was the beloved husband of Lorie Vonk (nee Black). He was born in Holland, the son of the late Roel and Maria Vonk. His children Courtney Lischak (neeVonk), Eric Vonk and Emily Malcolm (nee Vonk), as well as their spouses Paul Lischak and Dalton Malcolm, will hold him and their treasured memories lovingly in their hearts. He will also be held dearly by and live on through his adored grandchildren Ella Lischak, Nicholas Lischak, Lyla Malcolm and Richard Malcolm. He was not only a big brother, but also a friend to Roel Vonk and Pieter Vonk and little brother to Kees Vonk (2019).
There were many things that Arie valued and took pride in. He was a loyal and hardworking international project manager at Babcock and Wilcox for over thirty years. As an avid golfer, he followed his love of the game from many Canadian Opens to St. Andrews, Scotland. More recently, he became a dedicated follower of Wrexham soccer and delighted in cheering them on. He was also a talented carpenter and a painter, often making beautiful works of art inspired by the places that he and his family travelled to.
But above all, what Arie cherished most in life was his family. His wife and children were his best friends. He spent most of his time helping with renovations, hanging out at the mall, and going on adventures with them. And there was nothing that would light up his face quite like the moments when he was playing with or cuddling his grandchildren.
As per Arie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service, as the family will be celebrating his life in a personal way. To honour his memory and in lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for any donations to the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation.
