2 charged after men found asleep in stolen vehicle in Cambridge

Police say suspected fentanyl, a taser and a pellet gun were found in the vehicle

Police say they have laid charges and recovered a stolen vehicle after two men were found asleep in a vehicle in Cambridge early Sunday morning.

Officers from Waterloo Regional Police responded to a report of two males asleep in a vehicle near Dundas Street South and Franklin Boulevard on May 14 at around 3 a.m.

Prior to police arrival, it was determined the vehicle, a grey Toyota, had been reported stolen on Saturday, police said in a news release.

Upon arrival in the area, police the men sleeping in the vehicle and placed them under arrest.

Police say suspected fentanyl, suspected hydromorphone, a conducted energy weapon (taser), and a pellet gun were found in a search of the vehicle.

A 32-year-old from Cambridge and a 31-year-old were jointly charged with:

  • Theft of over $5,000
  • Possession of stolen goods over $5,000
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a controlled substance (two counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon

The 31-year-old was also charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and operation while prohibited by order.

The accused were held in police custody for a bail hearing.
