Waterloo Regional Police are joining police services across Ontario in participating in Crime Prevention Week.

This year’s theme is “Awareness, Engagement, Prevention,” and WRPS says the main goal is to educate the community about crime trends in our region.

Police also plan to share some safety tips on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

“As a community, we all have a part to play in crime prevention and we encourage all residents to contact us if they see or suspect crime in their neighbourhoods,” said Mark Crowell, the chief of police.

“When incidents are reported to police, we can proactively track trends, identify suspects to solve investigations, and reduce crime.”

Anyone who witnesses a crime in-progress is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.

Non-emergencies can be reported online or by calling 519-570-9777.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Crime Prevention Week runs until November 11.
