GUELPH – Two people face several charges after a stolen SUV struck the stairs in front of a Guelph home Saturday morning, Guelph police report.

Approximately 11:45 a.m. Saturday, officers were patrolling on Willow Road when they spotted a Ford Escape they knew to be stolen. The SUV fled, passing other vehicles at high speed in very poor road conditions. Officers did not pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety.

The vehicle was located minutes later in the area of Speedvale Avenue West and Kathleen Street. Officers attempted to stop it, but the driver swerved onto the sidewalk and ran a stop sign to evade police. A short time later officers discovered the SUV had gone off the road, hitting the staircase at a home on Suffolk Street West. The occupants attempted to flee but were located and arrested.

A 19-year-old Kitchener woman is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, possessing stolen property, occupying a stolen vehicle and failing to comply with a release order.
