Local people among those arrested in child porn investigation

The investigation began in August and a 39-year-old Cambridge woman who had already been charged is facing additional charges

Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Cybercrime - Internet Child Exploitation Unit have completed an investigation into child pornography that led to the arrest of three individuals.

In August 2022, police began an investigation after receiving a report from the National Child Exploitation Centre regarding an individual possessing and making child pornography available to others.

On Oct. 12, 2022, police completed a search warrant at a residence in Cambridge. As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old Cambridge female was arrested and charged with the following:

  • making child pornography
  • making available child pornography
  • possession of child pornography (two counts)
  • making an agreement to commit a sexual offence against a child (two counts)

The female was held for a bail hearing.

As a result of the arrest, investigators began an investigation into two males, one in the United Kingdom and the other in Cambridge, Ont.

On Oct. 14, 2022, the Bedfordshire Police (United Kingdom) arrested and charged a 33-year-old male with the following:

  • taking indecent photographs
  • distributing indecent images
  • sexual activity with a female child family member under the age of 13
  • sexual activity with a male child family member under the age of 13
  • intentionally encourage/assist in commission of an offence and publish obscene article

The male was held in custody.

On Oct. 27, 2022, members of WRPS’ Cybercrime - Internet Child Exploitation Unit arrested and charged a 38-year-old Cambridge male with following:

  • possession of child pornography
  • making child pornography
  • making available child pornography
  • making agreement to commit a sexual offence against a child (three counts)

The male was held for a bail hearing.

As a result of this investigation, a total of four children were rescued from sexual exploitation in Waterloo Region and in the United Kingdom.

On Dec. 28, 2022, the same 39-year-old Cambridge female, was arrested and charged with the following additional offences:

  • sexual assault
  • sexual interference
  • distribute child pornography
  • parent or guardian procuring sexual activity
  • make child pornography (two counts)
  • agree and/or arrange to commit a sexual offence against a child (four counts)

The female was held for a bail hearing.
