OPP nab Cambridge driver speeding at nearly double posted limit

A 23-year-old Cambridge man is facing charges following a traffic stop on Brant Road in Brant County last week.

On January 3, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a member of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting LiDAR enforcement on Brant Road. The officer observed a motor vehicle travelling at 156km/h in a posted 80km/h zone.

As a result of the traffic stop, a 23-year-old of Cambridge had been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

·        Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed

·        Speeding 50+ km/h Over Posted Speed Limit

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on January 25, to answer to the charges.

According to CAA, the charge comes with an immediate 30-day roadside licence suspension and a 14 day vehicle seizure.

Upon conviction, a maximum fine could be up to $10,000, not including a victim surcharge.

Convicted drivers also get six demerit points, possible jail time and licence suspension from 1 to 3 years. They also must complete a driver improvement course before their licence is reinstated.
