Speeding and street racing along the south boundary road in Cambridge has been a problem since it opened in August 2021.
The region is considering a motion from the City of Cambridge to designate the stretch a community safety zone and add automated speed enforcement cameras to catch drivers in the act.
Residents whose homes back onto the road have compared it to a NASCAR speedway in calling for better enforcement and the installation of noise walls along the entire 1.8 kilometre stretch to block traffic noise and prevent out-of-control vehicles from rolling into backyards.
That project has been approved to go ahead in 2024 at an estimated cost of $3.9 million.
