Police looking for man who left home after extensive fire

Damages from the fire are estimated at $180,000

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating after responding to reports of a dispute in the area of Alison Avenue in Cambridge. 

On May 16, 2023, at approximately 6:45 p.m., emergency services responded to reports of a residential fire. The fire caused extensive damage to a home, and damages are estimated at $180,000. 

Police have identified a male they continue to search for who may have information regarding the incident. 

Justin Van Hal, 39, from Cambridge, is believed to have left the home after the fire. There are concerns for his well-being and safety. If anyone sees him, please do not approach him, but contact police immediately by calling 911. 

As a result of the incident, police closed Alison Avenue between Elgin Street North and Lauris Avenue for a lengthy period of time. Area roads are now reopened. 

The investigation is ongoing.
