Waterloo Regional Police are warning property owners of paving contractor scams after receiving several recent reports of fraudulent activity in Kitchener and Cambridge.

Since May 1, Waterloo Regional Police have received seven reports of various driveway scams, and victims have sustained losses of more than $40,000.

In one incident, a victim was approached by a group of individuals doing driveway work in the area of Moore Street in Cambridge.

The victim was provided with no written agreement and advised that their driveway would be paved within the next day.

The victim paid cash to the individuals, but the work was allegedly never completed.

Police are reminding residents to research companies coming door-to-door and to not provide any sort of payment before confirming the legitimacy of the company involved.

Police believe there may be other victims and are asking anyone with information about this scam to contact police by calling 519-570-9777.
