The Waterloo Regional Police Service is proud to take part in a Project ERASE (Eliminating Racing Activity on Streets Everywhere) initiative on roads across the Region of Waterloo this week.

The month of May is RIDE and DRIVE safe month and the focus of WRPS’ road safety plan is the enforcement of the ‘Fatal Four’ (impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt violations), aggressive driving, and illegal vehicle modifications.

Between May 8, 2023, and May 12, 2023, WRPS’ Traffic Services Unit will be conducting extra enforcement efforts in high complaint areas across the region. Enforcement efforts will target driving behaviours that put other road users at risk on our roadways.

“May brings better weather which means more cars, motorcycles and other vehicles to our roadways,” said Staff Sergeant Scott Griffiths of the WRPS Traffic Services Unit. “This heightens the need to slow down, put the phone down and wear all available safety equipment. It also means finding alternate means to get home if you choose to drink alcohol or use drugs.”

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. The Waterloo Regional Police are urging motorists to slow down and obey all rules of the road.
