Traffic stop nabs Cambridge pair carrying loaded firearm, drugs

Police seized firearm, Canadian currency and suspected fentanyl, meth and cocaine worth $7,500

Officers from WRPS’ Direct Action Response Team (DART) and Central Division have seized a loaded firearm and suspected drugs as a result of a traffic stop in Kitchener.

Officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle with unattached license plates in the area of King Street East and Fairway Road South on March 1 around noon.

Through investigation, officers located and seized a loaded firearm, Canadian currency, and suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine, worth an estimated $7,500.

The driver, a 48-year-old male, and passenger, a 24-year-old female, both from Cambridge, were arrested and jointly charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (three counts)
  • Careless use of firearm
  • Unsafe storage of firearm
  • Possess weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Knowledge of unauthorized firearm
  • Possess firearm in motor vehicle
  • Possession of prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000

The male was also charged with possession of identity documents, fail to comply with undertaking (two counts), driving while under suspension and use plates not authorized for vehicle.

The female was also charged with fail to comply with undertaking.

Both accused parties were held for a bail hearing.
