Two officers assaulted while arresting suspect

Waterloo Regional Police say two officers were assaulted while making an arrest in Cambridge Saturday afternoon.

At around 3 p.m., police were called to the area of Glamis Road and Ferguson Avenue to investigate an unwanted person at a business. 

“The victim observed the male spray an unknown substance towards two dogs in the area,” police said in a news release. 

“The male left the business and later returned with a large stick and began chasing the victim while attempting to hit them.”

Police allege two officers were assaulted by the suspect while taking him into custody.

Both had minor injuries.

A 47-year-old Cambridge man has been charged with:

  • Cruelty to animals
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Assaulting a peace officer (two counts)
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest (two counts)
  • Assault with a weapon (three counts)
