A Waterloo teen suffered "significant burn injuries" from a firework that was thrown at his face by a group of youths.

Waterloo regional police are investigating the May 9 assault at a park in the area of Allen Street East and Willow Street.

The incident took place around 6:30 p.m. when the victim was approached by a group of youths.

One of the youths threw a lit firework at the victim which activated in the victim’s face. The youths left the area after the incident.

The victim was transported to an out-of-region hospital for care.
