'Kitchener and Waterloo now have their LRT... now it’s Cambridge’s turn!'

The ION makes a stop at Grand River Hospital on King Street in Kitchener.

CambridgeToday received the following letter to the editor from the group, Citizens for Cambridge, regarding light rail transit (LRT) in the region.

Kitchener and Waterloo now have their LRT, with resulting successes that have exceeded expectations.

Now it’s Cambridge’s turn!

Cambridge is paying for the LRT already, come on, what’s fair is fair!

Some say the Cambridge LRT will now be too expensive. We say that everything is too expensive these days, when the going gets tough, the tough get going, now is not the time to give up!

Some say the Cambridge LRT end point should not be in downtown Galt. We say that for the Region to turn their backs on the rebirthing of a vibrant downtown Galt would be the ultimate insult.

The long-term viability of downtown Galt depends on more people living there as well as effective public transit to bring in visitors.

The Cambridge LRT design is done, the route is finalized, the studies and reviews are completed. It’s ready to proceed to the next stage.

Let’s move ahead as aggressively as possible, the Cambridge LRT is critical!

Thanks,
Citizens for Cambridge
