LETTER: Council doesn't have the guts to stop speeding

Removable speed bumps work elsewhere and they will work here, too, writes reader Thomas Vann.

CambridgeToday received the following letter about speeding and how to end it.

Do the people of Cambridge really think our council gives a damn about speeding outside of Galt?

After the input from those telling them what to do by union groups, the answer is nope. It's about the vote numbers.

Put up those speed signs, put up the lights and all the rest of the usless "we did something garbage" that does nothing to slow the traffic. Drivers laugh.

Cops? Sorry we are busy in Kitchener.

Now folks, I admire our council and our mayor, but they have no guts to do what works.

Removable speed bumps that numerous other cities have worked. Are they not allowed in the union-vote-countrolled City of Cambridge?

Remove the portable bumps before winter, put legal signs up to tell of the bumps and tell our vote-grabbing unions to shut up about losing two seconds to have to slow down for them.

I have video of our fire department showing up late by nearly 15 minutes to a fire while in Riverside Park doing PR work.

Ouch. How dare I mention the truth.

Council, grow a pair and see how speed bumps work in Preston. If we are so broke, I will pay for the damn things.

Wait a minute, Galt has all kinds, but we can't have them in Preston? Think I'm lying? Drive through West Galt.

Of course, if these speed bumps were so bad, one has to wonder why the ones in Galt are still there and not removed.

If a pilot project works in Preston, great. If my removable speed bump proposal is a failure, I will apologize fully.

Funny, Ayr and Paris love them and they work.

Cambridge, see if the union is interested in public safety before you respond.
