CambridgeToday receieved the following Letter to the Editor from reader, Joanne, in response to Poll: Working from home shows revealing divisions:

It seems most answers point to the individuals benefit only. In reading these responses and listening to discussions, very little is considered about the wider good for a community when people are out of their homes connecting with the community. A lot of infrastructure and independent business has been built on supporting people working outside the home - coffee shops, restaurants, transit, personal services, shops, city parks etc.

Does anyone consider how this has been effecting these businesses? Will people care when they come into “town”” only to find empty buildings. No where to have a coffee or lunch with co workers or friends?

The most missed will be connecting with others, be it a catch up in a restaurant or a small chat in a shop. We need to connect - outside of our immediate bubbles. It’s a basic human need for healthy individuals and our communities.
