A Cambridge male faces several charges after police responded to a report of a suspicious male Sunday evening.

Approximately 6:20 p.m. Guelph police received a report of a male possibly using drugs in a parking lot in the area of Willow Road and Alma Street. A caller reported the male was hanging around a black Lexus SUV in the lot.

Officers arrived and located the male, who dropped a pipe on the ground as officers approached. The male provided a fake name and date of birth. Investigation eventually revealed the male’s true identity and he was arrested. During a search incident to arrest, a small amount of suspected blue fentanyl was located in his pocket. Further investigation revealed the male is on bail with a condition to be in his surety’s residence 24 hours a day unless in the presence of his surety.

A 27-year-old Cambridge male is charged with obstructing police, possessing a controlled substance, breach of probation and failing to comply with a bail order. He will appear in a Guelph bail court Monday.

Investigation revealed the Lexus SUV had been stolen earlier in the weekend from an address in the area of Riverbend Drive and Waverley Drive. It was seized for further investigation.
