Driver charged in pedestrian hit-and-run (update)

A 57-year-old man was taken to an out-of-region hospital with serious injuries

Waterloo Regional Police have made an arrest in a pedestrian hit-and-run early Friday afternoon in Cambridge.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Dunbar Road and Briarwood Drive, just west of Hespeler Road, at around 12:45 p.m.

A 57-year-old man was taken to an out-of-region hospital with serious injuries.

Officers tracked down a suspect vehicle and its driver.

A 28-year-old Cambridge woman is now facing charges of dangerous operation and failure to stop after an accident.

Dunbar Street had been closed in both directions in the area of the crash for the investigation, but it has since reopened.

Anyone who has information on the crash or dash-camera footage is asked to call police at 519-570-9777, extension 8856.

UPDATE (3:25 p.m.) WRPS report the injured pedestrian, a 57-year-old man, was taken to an out-of-town hospital with serious injuries and the driver involved was located and taken into police custody.

UPDATE (4:45 p.m.) The WRPS remotely piloted vehicle (drone) will be flown in the area of Dunbar and Briarwood for the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash camera footage of the incident is asked to contact the traffic division at 519-570-9777, ext. 8856.

Dunbar Road just west of Hespeler Road is closed to traffic in both directions as police investigate a hit and run involving a pedestrian.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the pedestrian.

At the time of the incident workers were in the area doing work extending the multi-use trail that runs through the area.

A person living nearby said they saw a worker laying on the ground injured. They were taken away in an ambulance a short time later. The condition of the individual is not immediately known.

Police posted about the incident on X around 1:30 p.m.

The exact location is Dunbar Road at Briarwood Drive.

People are asked to avoid the area.
