Cambridge auto parts manufacturer Dana Canada Corporation is among companies set to receive a grant from the Invest Ontario Fund that will generate new jobs in addition to ones announced last fall.

Today's 2024 provincial budget highlighted a $60 million investment announced by the local drivetrain manufacturer in November to expand its manufacturing capacity of thermal management systems, which are a key component for EV batteries and electronics.

The investment will create 105 jobs supported by a $2.5 million grant from the Invest Ontario Fund for its two facilities in Cambridge and Oakville.

With operations spanning across 31 countries, the investment will make its Cambridge facility one of its primary manufacturing sites in Canada, in addition to supporting operational growth at the Oakville Technology Centre.

The 2024 provincial budget says the province is bringing more jobs to Cambridge with the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC) stream, initially launched in January 2022 to support advanced manufacturers across the province.

The province is also investing $1.9 million in North Dumfries to help up to 5,400 people connect with team-based primary care in a rural setting. It’s part of a larger investment in primary care across the province: $546 million over three years, starting in 2024-2025, to connect around 600,000 people to team-based primary care “through new and expanded interprofessional care teams.”

Interprofessional primary care teams connect people to a range of health professionals who all work together, from doctors and nurse practitioners to physiotherapists, social workers and more.

“These teams enhance the quality of patient care, improve health outcomes and increase the efficiency of health service delivery by relieving pressures on emergency departments and walk-in clinics,” the budget states.

The budget also refers to the recently completed widening of the 401 from Highway 8 to Townline Road.
