Ward 4 councillor and mayoral candidate Jan Liggett is reportedly recovering after being taken to hospital after being struck by a car Saturday morning in downtown Galt.

According to witnesses, she was struck in the hip and knocked down while crossing Dickson Street near city hall on the way to church.

Regional council candidate Prakash Venkataraman posted the news on Facebook, thanking paramedics and firefighters for their prompt response and care.

Several people were quick to wish her a full and quick recovery.

Venkataraman told CambridgeToday he was on his way to the Farmers' Market just before 11 a.m. when he witnessed Liggett falling.

He pulled his car over immediately and asked bystanders to call paramedics.

"She was unconscious on the ground, she didn't move didn't speak, she was completely unconscious," he said.

When paramedics arrived, they were able to wake her up and she immediately recognized him and said, "Hey Prakash."

"It was a happy moment," he said.

The last he heard is that she was under the care of doctors at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
