Prakash Venkataraman posted this photo of first responders and paramedics at the scene of the accident Saturday morning.

Jan Liggett suffered a broken bone in her left foot along with several cuts, scrapes and bruises after she was struck by a vehicle while in the crosswalk trying to cross Dickson Street on Saturday morning.

The update comes from the Ward 4 councillor herself, who was at home resting Monday morning before her scheduled campaign launch for mayor Monday evening.

Liggett wanted to clarify what happened, citing incorrect reports from people who said they witnessed the accident.

She was never unconscious and didn't strike her head after falling to the ground, despite witness accounts and a police report that called her injuries serious.

She was, however, dazed and in shock.

"I thought I was in another world," she said, describing how she looked around and was suddenly surrounded by her son in law and grandchildren who happened to be driving by and stopped to assist. Others that stopped all happened to be people she knew, adding to her confusion.

"I though 'Oh my God, I've died," she said, able to laugh now after reading what was written about her injuries.

Liggett said she underwent "countless" scans and tests to determine she didn't have a head injury.

"We have an amazing hospital," she said. "The EMTs were so wonderful and friendly. They kept it very light."

Police charged a 73-year-old female driver with careless driving causing bodily harm.
