City seeks volunteers for Friendly Visiting program

Residents can volunteer to visit with isolated older adults
SENIOR
The program provides meaningful social connections for those with limited contacts.

The pandemic may be over but social isolation for many, including seniors, is not.

That’s why the city is in search of volunteers for its Friendly Visiting program.

The program pairs individuals with a socially isolated older adult or someone living with a physical disability for regularly scheduled social and recreational visits.

Volunteers are matched based on the gender they identify with and their shared interests. Visits can include conversation, playing cards and games or taking a walk.

Anyone looking to volunteer must be 18 years of age, be able to provide a vulnerable sector check and be open for visits during the day, evening or weekends.

The city is also accepting people who want to be a part of the program and welcome visitors.

Eligible residents must live in the Cambridge or North Dumfries area, have limited social contacts outside the home and don’t require personal care. Those living with a disability or experiencing memory loss are also able to enrol in the program.

Friendly Visiting is a free community support service funded by the Ministry of Health.
