CMH dominates the top earners spot for the Sunshine list

The annual list of public sector employees making over $100K sees Cambridge Memorial Hospital taking the top five spots and the biggest salary increases

CMH dominates the top earners spot for local Sunshine listers.

The Ontario government has released their Sunshine List for 2022; a list that discloses the salary of public sector employees making over $100,000. 

In Cambridge there were over 450 workers whose income passed the $100,000 mark. This includes employees from both school boards public and Catholic, the City of Cambridge and Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

CMH staff hold the top five spots for highest salary in the city, with pathologist Jacqueline Bourgeois coming in first with a total salary of $371,745.07; her income in 2021 was $306,840.40 and in 2019, $227,111.40. 

President and CEO of CMH Patrick Gaskin, had held onto the title of highest paid official at the hospital up until 2022.

In 2021, Gaskin's salary actually decreased from $343k to $329k and has started to steadily climb back up, now making $332,600.44

CMH also now holds the record for highest paid employees in the city with the top three earners making over $330k. In 2021, there were no employees making over the $330k mark.

The health sector in Cambridge saw the biggest jump over the last year with top earners like Bourgeois making an extra $65k year-over-year.

At the City of Cambridge, the highest paid employee is currently city manager, David Calder who made $252,441.12 last year, up $19,475.80 from 2021. Calder has held the role of top earner for the City of Cambridge since 2020.

The total number of employees in Cambridge on the list has also seen a significant jump, with an increase of around 100 workers. All of the top ten earners in the city all make over $200,000 and are made up of CMH and City staff. 

Former mayor of Cambridge, Kathryn McGarry's salary came in at $100,650.85 and regional chair Karen Redman earned $184,793.45. 

Around the region, Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physic's director, Robert Myers had the top salary with $536,767.65. Myers is the only person locally who cracked the top 100 earners in the province. 

The chief administrative officer for Region of Waterloo Bruce Lauckner, made $321,654.55 and lead health official from the region's COVID-19 response Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang earned $309,139.77.

Ontario Energy is taking up the highest paid positions provincially with president and CEO, Kenneth Hartwick raking in over $1.7 million and his chief strategy officer Dominique Miniere making $1,694,538.28. 

According to the province's Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, any organization that receives public funding from the province id required to release the salary of employees making $100,000 or more.
