The Gaslight District condo towers rise above the treeline on Grand Avenue, one of four zones in Galt where no height limits are being proposed in the city's draft height guidelines.

The city of Cambridge is growing up in Galt's core and needs your input to determine how high it should go.

The first virtual public information centre to establish building height guidelines for the Galt core is scheduled for July 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The current height policy for the downtown predates the provincial policy framework, and with current growth pressures and investment in the downtown, the city is being proactive to ensure a managed approach to development.

Downtown Cambridge is identified as an “Urban Growth Centre” with a targeted growth of 150 persons  and jobs per hectare by 2031.

The city has recently retained The Planning Partnership to consult with residents and prepare the guidelines.

The city says the purpose of the study is to develop a building height strategy that will be applied to an update of the existing zoning by-law and official plan, thereby bringing them into conformity with provincial policy, while also mitigating any potential impacts additional height may impose upon the downtown core’s character.

Public consultation is planned for summer/fall 2022.

Anyone who would like to be notified of the public consultation is asked to add their name to the mailing list by contacting Karin Stieg-Drobig at [email protected].

Participants in the July 12 meeting are required to register by 5 p.m. that day to attend.
