On Sept. 4, Grand River Transit will launch significant service improvements in Cambridge to provide more direct travel options, and expanded and more frequent service.

Service improvements are planned for east Galt, north Galt and Preston.

“I know these changes will have a positive impact for customers, and I’m thrilled to see Cambridge receive these service increases,” said regional councillor and chair of the planning and works committee Colleen James in a press release.

“This service improvement is another example of how the region is responding to community needs while balancing our resources across the transit network.”

Routes 50, 53, 56, 58, 60, 63, and 65 have been redesigned in key areas, and additional service has been added to Routes 51 and 61. Route 51 will have extended 30-minute service on Sunday mornings and evenings. Route 61 will have 15-minute service between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays.

Routes 54, 59, 64 and 75 will be discontinued, with alternate routes providing service to those areas.

Updated schedules are available at grt.ca/schedules, and customers should check grt.ca/Cambridge and use the trip planner to see if their trips are changing.

Information will be available at impacted bus stops, and at all GRT customer service locations. Transit staff will also be handing out information, and will be available to guide customers through the changes. Details are available on the GRT website.

Other fall service changes
Weekend service is being added on Routes 31, 33, and 36, meeting demand in new growth areas.

Late evening service every 30 minutes on weekdays is being restored on Routes 3, 4, 33, 56 and 60, after it was removed during the pandemic.

Route 2 will be discontinued. Service along Stirling Avenue and Greenbrook Drive will be provided by the new Route 35. The new route will provide a direct connection between Central Station and Sunrise Centre Station.

Route 73 will be discontinued and its resources shifted to help meet demand in other parts of the network.

ION light rail service and Route 302 also return to 10-minute frequency on weekdays.
