An open letter penned by the Waterloo Region District School Board continues to dominate conversation among school board trustees and parents alike.

In the letter released Friday afternoon, the board defended itself against accusations of child abuse and hiding information from parents.

The letter was discussed at Monday's public school board committee of the whole meeting, first raised by Trustee Cindy Watson.

Her, along with Trustee Mike Ramsay have openly spoken against about the letter through social media. Trustee Watson has argued parents have a "democratic right to share their concerns."

The board says it wants to make it clear that just because a parent or caregiver disagrees with the Ministry of Education and Ontario Human Rights Commission's directions does not give them the right to make false claims of pandering or facilitating child abuse or pedophilia.

Since the letter was released, social media has been flooded with responses of both support and disagreement with the board's comments.
