A house on Crombie Street in Galt went up in flames just before midnight Sunday.

Fire crews and police responded to calls about a house fire in Galt just before midnight Sunday.

Firetrucks and paramedics pulled up to a house fire on Crombie Street soon after and crews found two properties on fire.

No one was injured in the blaze, but one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and shortly released by paramedics.

"The fire started in the backyard and spread from one house to another," said Eric Yates, chief fire prevention officer for Cambridge Fire.

Yates said in the initial investigation, the fire seems to have originated from a backyard gazebo and wind pushed the flames to the neighbouring home.

Between the two houses, 14 people were displaced by the fire, and initial reports have the damages ranging from $700,000 to $1 million.

"The flames were probably shooting up over 20 feet over the back there," said James, a neighbour who lives next door. "Those guys when they showed up they were all over that fire and got it put out almost right away."

James said the person who lived at the top of the house only has one entrance and it was completely engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to enter the unit and pull the man to safety.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but so far seems accidental.
