Price of homes up almost 40 per cent in May 2021 compared to last year: CREA

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) has reported a decrease in home sales in May 2021 compared to April 2021.

However, according to John Teixeira, President of the Cambridge Association of Realtors, "home sales posted the second highest May on record and new listings also remained at very supportive levels in May."

Statistics show the average price of homes sold in the first five months of 2020 was $787,625, up 36.5 per cent from the first five months of 2020.

In May 2021:

  • 312 residential units were sold
  • $835,506 was the average price of homes sold
  • 416 new residential listings were posted

In May 2020:

  • 177 residential units were sold
  • $603,690 was the average price of homes sold
  • 300 new residential listings were posted

To compare, in April 2021:

  • 386 residential units were sold
  • $769,099 was the average price of homes sold
  • 481 new residential listings were posted

To compare, in April 2020:

  • 140 residential units were sold
  • $522,987 was the average price of homes sold
  • 201 new residential listings were posted
