In a special meeting Thursday, Regional Council approved a three-year agreement with UNIFOR Local 4304.

The agreement represents an overall increase of 9.88% in wages and benefits for UNIFOR Local 4304 members over three years, effective May 1, 2023.

“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with UNIFOR Local 4304,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman in a press release. “The agreement was reached following hard work and commitment from the Region and Union membership. It is an agreement that is competitive for employees and fair to taxpayers.

“The Region of Waterloo is a growing community and transit is a key facilitator of that growth. We value transit in this community and we are thankful for the hard work of all employees at Grand River Transit and for their service on a daily basis.

“I also want to recognize the impact the labour disruption has had on residents, including vulnerable residents. I know that many throughout the community struggled to get to work, school and important appointments in recent days.”

To acknowledge the disruption, no fares will be collected on transit from today, Thursday, May 11, up to and including May 22, Victoria Day. Customers who purchased a May monthly pass before May 8 will receive a June pass.
