Truck stolen from Cambridge ONroute ditched on Townline Road

Man suffers serious injuries after jumping from the truck police allege was stolen minutes earlier

The province's Special Investigations Unit is investigating an accident on Townline Road that left a stolen transport truck wedged in a tree in the east ditch near Kerwood Drive and the driver in hospital with serious injuries Wednesday morning.

The SIU said around 8:20 a.m. on May 17, Ontario Provincial Police were notified that a transport tractor trailer had been stolen from the Highway 401 ONroute.

An officer observed the vehicle and attempted to stop it at the Townline Road exit off of Highway 401.

At Townline Road and Ellis Road, a 39-year-old man exited the tractor trailer and was apprehended. 

The vehicle left the roadway just south of Kerwood.

The SIU said the man was transported to hospital for treatment of a serious injury.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
