What's open and closed in Cambridge over the holidays

Here's a list of city services and facilities that have modified holiday hours

The City of Cambridge and Region of Waterloo have holiday hours for their facilities and services.

Here's a list of what's open and closed over the next week.

Grand River Transit will operate winter holiday service December 19 to January 2.

Curbside waste will be collected as regularly scheduled (there are no changes to the collection schedule). Please have waste items at the curb by 7 a.m. The Cambridge transfer station will be closed for residential access on December 26, 27 and January 2.

Home child care is operating as specified by your provider. Offices will be closed December 26, 27 and January 2. For urgent issues, call 519-575-4400 and ask for Home Child Care.

Community Alzheimer Day and Dinner Programs and Young Onset Dementia Association will be closed from December 24 to January 2.

Seniors’ Services Overnight Stay Program will be closed from December 24 to January 2.

Welcome Spaces will be closed December 26, 27 and January 2.

Public Health clinics, including COVID-19 vaccine clinics are closed on December 25, 26 and 27, and January 2.

Seniors’ Services administration will be closed December 26, 27 and January 2.

The John Dolson Centre is open regular hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 23, Dec. 27 to Dec. 30, and Jan. 2. It is closed from Dec. 24 to 26, Dec. 31, and Jan. 1.

The W. G. Johnson Centre is open regular hours on Dec. 23, Dec. 27 to 30 and Jan. 2. It is closed on Dec. 24 to 26, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

All city arenas, Dickson, Duncan McIntosh, Galt Arena Gardens, Hespeler Memorial, Karl Homuth and Preston Memorial will be closed at noon on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. The arenas are closed all day Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.

The arenas are open for permitted and registered use from Dec. 27 to Dec. 30.

Cemetery administration offices can be reached at 519-740-4681 ext. 4299. It is open until noon Dec. 23 and reopens Dec. 28 and 29. On Dec. 30, the office is open until noon. It is closed Jan. 3. 

Burials are scheduled and conducted by municipal cemetery staff on weekends and holidays.  Any emergencies or requests for a burial after hours should be made through the city’s emergency on-call service, Bestel at (519) 621-0740.

All locations of the Idea Exchange (Cambridge public library) are closed Dec. 24 to Dec. 27 and reopen for regular hours Dec. 28 and Dec. 29. On Dec. 31, the branches are open until 4:30 p.m. They are all closed Jan. 1 and 2.

Items can be renewed online or over the telephone (519.740.3000) while closed.

City hall and its service desk is closed Dec. 23 to Jan. 2. Questions can be sent to [email protected]. Residents can also submit inquiries at [email protected] however, residents should expect a delay in response time due to the holiday closure.

The Cambridge Farmers' Market is open Dec. 24 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is closed Dec. 31. For more info visit www.cambridgefarmersmarket.ca.

The Cambridge Fire Department and Public Works Department are closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2 but emergency services are running as usual.

The Cambridge Centre for the Arts is closed Dec. 23 to Jan. 2.

The Waterloo Region Small Business Centre at 96 Grand Ave. S. is closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2.

The Ted Wake Centre, David Durward Centre, Allan Reuter Centre, and William E. Pautler Centre are all closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2.
