DECEMBER 24, 1929 – MAY 9, 2023
Duarte Medeiros passed away peacefully from this life to eternity on Tuesday May 9th, 2023, at the age of 93.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Maria Alda, his daughter Eulalia and her husband Antonio, and his son Duarte and his wife Rose. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Mark (Deborah), Eric, Priscilla and Phillip (Chelsea), as well as his beloved great grandchildren Emilia, Xavier and Jonah.
Duarte made the journey from the Azores in search of greater opportunity for he and his family settling in Galt in 1967. He was widely known in the community as "Maestre Duarte" for his skill in painting, but also his gift of music. His love and appreciation for the arts was closely matched by his love of sport, especially his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. Our Duarte enjoyed the simple things in life, chief among them, time with his family whom he adored above all else, along with a good glass of wine. His quiet lessons of humility, dignity and love will be the legacy he leaves us. And so, we will not mourn him in sadness but instead give thanks to God for a life well lived.
Visitation will be held at Coutts Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 96 St. Andrews St., Cambridge on Friday May 12th from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., with Parish Prayers held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Our Lady of Fatima Church, 185 Elgin St. S., Cambridge, on Saturday May 13th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge.
