Additional charges for suspect accused of damaging Pride signs

Waterloo Regional Police have laid additional charges in connection to hate-related incidents in the Galt area of Cambridge.

On multiple occasions during the latter part of June 2023, a male suspect attended businesses in the downtown core, removing Pride signs from windows and damaging a Pride banner while attempting to tear it down.

On July 17, 2023, police arrested a Cambridge male who was wanted on a warrant in connection to these incidents.

The 59-year-old male has been charged with three counts of theft, attempt theft and mischief under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 24, 2023.

Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a male in connection to several reports of hate-related incidents that occurred on Ainslie and Main Streets in Cambridge.

On June 1, 2023, in the afternoon, police received calls about a male removing Pride signs from businesses' windows and, later, while at another business making threatening comments to cause harm to others.

There were no physical injuries reported.

On June 8, 2022, police learned of more incidents involving thefts of Pride signs from local businesses in the same area.

On June 9, 2023, as a result of the investigation, police arrested a 59-year-old Cambridge male.

The accused was charged with six counts of mischief under $5,000 and uttering threats to cause death.

The male was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
