Cambridge driver facing several charges after police cruiser rammed in Kitchener

A Cambridge man is facing several charges after Waterloo Regional Police say a stolen vehicle was used to ram a cruiser.

At around 4 p.m. Friday, police were told of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Evelyn Crescent in Kitchener.

When officers arrived, they determined the vehicle had been stolen.

“Two male passengers from the vehicle attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by police after a brief foot pursuit,” police said in a news release. 

“The driver of the vehicle and a passenger attempted to flee in the vehicle, ramming a police cruiser and driving on flat tires in an attempt to continue to flee from police.”

Officers tracked the vehicle to Peter Street where both the driver and the passenger were arrested nearby.

No one was injured and police have laid a total of 18 combined charges in relation to the incident.

The driver, a 28-year-old Cambridge man, was charged with the following:

  • Impaired operation of a vehicle 
  • Impaired operation - refusal
  • Prohibited operation of a vehicle 
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle 
  • Flight from police
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Failure to comply with a release order (two counts) 
  • Failure to remain at the scene of a collision 
  • Driving while under suspension

The passengers – a 22-year-old Mississauga man, a 22-year-old Brampton man, and a 30-year-old Caledon woman – were charged with various offences including, failure to comply with an undertaking, possession of controlled substances, and break and enter with intent. 

Three of the accused parties were held in police custody for a bail hearing.
