Cambridge driver hits hydro pole in Kitchener, charged with impaired

The passenger was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police say

A 19-year-old female driver from Cambridge is facing impaired charges after she hit a hydro pole in Kitchener in the area of Morgan Avenue and King Street East on Saturday morning.

According to police, the crash caused extensive damages that led to road closures for most of the day. As a result, the passenger of the car was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed that before striking the hydro pole, the driver had struck a median at Fairway Road North and King Street East, causing damage to a property.

The Cambridge driver was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs 
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 
  • Dangerous operations cause bodily harm 

She is scheduled to appear in court on May 10, police say.
