Officers from Waterloo Regional Police Service's South Patrol Division have charged a driver after a vehicle failed to stop for police in Cambridge.

On March 3 at around midnight, police tried to stop a white BMW after seeing the vehicle travelling north in the southbound lanes of Franklin Boulevard.

The vehicle initially pulled over but then fled when the officer began to exit their police cruiser.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle on Hespeler Road, but the BMW fled at high speed, travelling south in the northbound lanes and failing to stop for a red light at the intersection of Hespeler Road and Jaffray Street, police said in a news release.

A short time later officers located the BMW, which had collided with a bus shelter and come to a stop at Coronation Boulevard and Waterside Avenue.

The driver was standing in front of the vehicle, and officers placed him under arrest after he attempted to flee on foot down Waterside.

The driver, a 29-year-old Kitchener male, was charged with dangerous driving, failure or refusal to comply with a demand, and flight from police.

No physical injuries were reported in the incident, police said.
