Early-morning altercations lead to assault charges

A 50-year-old man has been charged after two men were injured in separate incidents this morning. One victim suffered minor injuries while the other was taken to hospital with serious injuries

Waterloo Regional Police have laid charges after investigating an assault that occurred in Cambridge. 

On July 29, 2022, at approximately 4:40 a.m., police received reports of a disturbance in the area of Main Street and Wellington Street. 

Upon arrival, officers located a male with minor physical injuries. The suspect had fled the scene.

A short time later, police were called to the area of Market Street and Simcoe Street for another disturbance. 

As a result of the incident, a male was transported to hospital by Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services with serious injuries. 

The suspect was located at approximately 7:40 a.m. and was arrested. 

As a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old Cambridge male was charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of breach of probation. 

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
