Fatal motorcycle collision on 401 claims life of Barrie man

OPP report that the victim of this morning's fatal motorcycle collision on Highway 401 westbound at Homer Watson Boulevard was a 55-year-old Barrie man.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, in a video tweet, said that the motorcyclist apparently lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected from it, striking the road.

Schmidt said no other vehicle was involved.

Clean-up and investigation is wrapping up and OPP said they hope to have the westbound lanes reopened by 1 p.m.

Highway 401 westbound remains closed at Homer Watson Boulevard following a fatal incident involving a motorcycle Monday morning.

OPP reports the westbound lanes remain closed and traffic is being diverted, getting off the 401 at Highway 8, as the investigation continues.

Eastbound 401 lanes remain open, although slower than usual.

There has been no time set for reopening.

Police were in the process of identifying next of kin.
