Impaired driving arrest leads to numerous weapons charges

Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a male in connection to an impaired driving incident in Cambridge.

On June 10, 2023, at approximately 10:15 p.m., police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in the area of Franklin Boulevard and Adam Street.

Police attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop and fled the area.

Police later checked the vehicle's registered owner's address and located the driver.

Through investigation, police arrested the driver for impaired driving.

After searching the male, police located a loaded firearm. A subsequent search of the residence led to police seizing a rifle, ammunition, and a ballistic vest.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old Cambridge male was charged with the following criminal offences:
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration
    •    Carrying a concealed weapon
    •    Dangerous operation of a vehicle
    •    Flight from police
    •    Careless use of a firearm (five counts)
    •    Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
